Footballer Zander Sutherland has really got a kick out of his latest ‘goal’.
For the Tulloch Homes site manager has won a National House Builders Council ‘Pride In The Job’ award for his role at the Broomhill development at Muir of Ord.
Making it all the more special for Brora Rangers FC attacker Zander is that the accolade has been received after only 11 months as a site manager.
On hand to congratulate him was Buckie Thistle FC defender Lewis MacKinnon who won an NHBC award for Tulloch Homes two years ago at The Parks, Inverness – where Zander was his apprentice site manager.
“I’m thrilled to win this award and looking forward to receiving it at an NHBC awards dinner in Glasgow this autumn”, said Zander, a 30 year old Invernessian.
“I was pleased when the NHBC team came back to Broomhill for a second inspection, but I didn’t really expect to win because I’ve not been a site manager for a year yet. But they must have liked what they had seen.
“The whole team at Broomhill should share in this recognition – we’ve worked well together in ensuring the emphasis is on craftsmanship and quality. I’m very grateful to them.”
Zander, a joiner to trade, had been assistant site manager at four Inverness developments before being promoted to a site of his own.
“Broomhill is a beautiful location and a new phase of 46 homes is starting there this summer”, he said.
“Joining Tulloch Homes six years ago has proved the best move I’ve made.”
Zander has four Highland League championship medals, two each with Buckie Thistle and Brora, and he is a former team mate of Lewis, who had won three championships at Buckie. Both played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC as teenagers.
George Fraser, chief executive of Tulloch Homes, said: "Zander deserves congratulations not just for winning the award but for making such excellent progress in a comparatively short time.
“As with Lewis in 2016, this is another success story for our ‘grow your own’ policy of training our own new range of site managers, who thus become ingrained with the Tulloch Homes approach.”
