Baking, gardening or learning a new skill have been some popular choices for people to keep themselves busy during lockdown but one of our Assistant Site Managers decided to challenge himself a bit further to complete his Level 6 NVQ Diploma In Construction Site Management – Residential Development (Construction) qualification from the National House Building Council (NHBC). The NHBC qualification is a leading construction qualification and covers health and safety, site set up, pre-start procedures, environmental considerations, planning, resourcing, quality, customer satisfaction and handover
Everyone at Tulloch Homes wants to say a huge congratulations to Scott Murray and a thank you for all the determination and hard work it took to complete this.
Scott joined Tulloch Homes as an Assistant Site Manager in April 2018 and has been working on the Tulloch Homes Fairview Development in Slackbuie since starting. As an Assistant Site Manager, he assists with the day to day running of the site and has been completing his NHBC qualification to help his progression to the role of Site Manager. Scott said that Tulloch Homes has given him the opportunity to think about the future, ‘Coming from a background of working with smaller housebuilders, I wanted to start my new career path with a larger well established company, allowing me opportunities to grow within the business and not get lost within it. Tulloch Homes seemed like the ideal choice for this’
Supported by his Tulloch Homes team mates he had been making good progress with the NHBC qualification ahead of lockdown but admitted that it was often challenging to find the time to fit it all in alongside doing the day job. So when the unexpected hit, he decided to make the best use of his furloughed time that he could think of and complete his course. Well that, and continuing to renovate his recently purchased home.
Completing the course during lockdown proved to have it’s own challenges as the NHBC qualification requires evidence of the on site tasks that Scott carries out daily to ensure he is meeting his learning outcomes for the course. This is then backed up by giving written explanations of the work and why they are required, demonstrating a sound knowledge and understanding of the job. Not to be deterred, Scott put his past experience as a joiner and time on the new build homes site to use and fully concentrated on completing the course successfully.
We cannot wait to see your progression to site manager with your own Tulloch Homes site Scott, well done!
