A home that works for family life
The Maples, Inverness
Last September Eilidh moved to The Maples in Inverness with her husband Mark, five-year-old daughter, Alex and baby, Max, and life has been easier ever since. The family relocated from an old property on the Isle of Lewis, drawn by better opportunities and convenience Inverness offers.
We moved from the Isle of Lewis, where I grew up, back to Inverness because we had lived here previously and always loved the lifestyle and everything the city has to offer. My husband, Mark, works as a physiotherapist and got a job here which sparked the move. My own fully remote job had also come to an end, so we needed somewhere with better opportunities and shorter commuting times for both of us.
We’d been living in an old doer-upper on Lewis, which was remote and a lot to maintain. This time we wanted something easy, move-in ready, manageable with a young family, and close to good schools and nurseries.
The move itself came with a few unexpected challenges. I was heavily pregnant with Max when the sale of our previous home fell through, shortly after we had reserved with Tulloch Homes.
The team could not have been more understanding. They allowed us to transfer our deposit to the same house type on another plot just one street away, and we moved in a few months later. Everything worked out brilliantly, and we’re incredibly grateful to Tulloch Homes for making the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
When we first viewed a Tulloch show home, I knew straight away we could live there, and our daughter turned to us and asked, “are we going to live here?”, which felt like a good sign. We chose a four-bedroom Etive with a garage, which was freshly painted and ready for us to move straight into. With a new baby and a five-year-old about to start school, it was exactly what our family needed.
One of my favourite things about the house is how warm and energy efficient it is. Our heat pump automatically adjusts the temperature in response to the weather outside, helping to keep the house consistently comfortable while using energy more efficiently. After experiencing some difficult winters in our previous home with a young baby, living somewhere warm, comfortable and more sustainable has made a real difference to our family.
We’ve been here for a year now, and settling in has been so easy. There are lots of families with children around the same age as ours, which has created a really welcoming, family-friendly community. I can easily walk to the school with my daughter which is very convenient, and The Maples is close to the leisure centre and quicker into town than other areas we’d looked at. We’re close to the park and the canal, which my husband and I enjoy going running along, and Eden Court theatre is a short walk away too.
Tulloch Homes are well known up here, and knowing several people already living in Tulloch homes gave us real confidence buying with them. Looking back, it’s proved exactly the right choice for our family.
