Air Source Heating (Vaillant)

Vaillant SensoComfort Programmable Thermostat

The heating system is set up on a time control setting.

The desired temperature is set to 20°c within the timed programme - this can be set by pressing the centre button with the 3 lines selecting your desired temperature by using the + & - controls and the time scale you want.

Outwith the desired programmed temperature, the system will set back to 17°c. It’s best to have a 3°c difference between your desired temperature and your set back temperature.

If the temperature outdoors is 21°c, the heating will not run. There is a temperature sensor on the North facing side of the property and the outdoor temperature is stated on the screen of the programmer.

Hot water takes priority within the system. In the water timed window, if the water drops by 5°c, hot water will come on for an hour or until the water reaches 50°c. If it doesn’t reach the desired temperature of 50°c, it will go to hot water for an hour and then back to heating for 30 minutes until it reaches the desired temperature. This allows the house to stay at a steady temperature without dropping off.

There heating has two zones, zone 1 downstairs and zone 2 upstairs. Both can be controlled from the main programmer in the hallway. Zone 2 can also be controlled from the programmer in the main bedroom. Hot water settings, absence mode and hot water boost can all be controlled through the main programmer.

If the working pressure of the system drops below 1 bar of pressure the heating will not fire.

The recommended working pressure is 1.5 – 2 bar. The filling loop (2 black lever valves) on the hot water cylinder can be used to top up the pressure.

Air Source Heat Pump External unit (Vaillant)

Keep the front of the air source heat pump clear to allow the system to run more efficiently.

The outdoor unit may freeze up during the Winter months and go into a defrost mode, which may produce a lot of steam from condensation. Some water may also drop from the bottom of the unit, this is nothing to worry about and is a normal function of the unit.

There is also an anti-freeze throughout the whole system which will go down to -15°c as some of the pipework is external to the house. This will stop them freezing up over the winter months.

Air Source Heat Pump – Hot Water Cylinder

This is your hot water cylinder - everything is controlled from the Vaillant SensoComfort Programmable Thermostat.

Hot water takes priority over the heating so if your cylinder is heating up for hot water, you won’t have heating until the water is heated up – or after an hour, the heating comes on for half an hour.

This will keep repeating until you reach the desired temperature of 50°c for your hot water.

If the working pressure of the system drops below 1 bar of pressure, the heating will not fire.

The recommended working pressure is 1.5 – 2 bar.

The filling loop - 2 black lever valves - on the hot water cylinder can be used to top up the pressure.

All heating and hot water times are already set as a default, however please refer to the manual should you wish to change these times.
